When: Fridays-June 4, 2010 through July 29, 2010 (no groups on July 2, 2010)

Where: Leaps and Bounds

Each group is led by an Occupational therapist trained in teaching social skills.

Buddy Builders 3-5 years (11:30-12:30 pm)

This group is for children who are working on engaging and playing with their peers appropriately. The group will also be working on turn taking, sharing, coping, and using words to communicate frustration. It will be led by an occupational therapist.

Buddy Builders 6-8 years old (1-2 pm)

This group is a social skills group that will be working on making and sustaining friendships, understanding non-verbal communication and communication with peers. It will be led by an occupational therapist.

**An intake assessment will be required for children not already attending Leaps and Bounds to ensure all of the children will receive maximum benefit from their group.

Each group is led by an experienced speech/ language pathologist.

Play N’ Say (Fridays 8:30-9:30 am)

This group is directed toward children 2-4 years of age that are learning to participate in a group setting. These children will be working on verbal communication, as well as, improving clarity of speech.

Articulation Group 3-5 years(9:45-10:45 am)

This group is for children 3-5 years of age who are working on articulation of sounds. The group will be led by a speech language pathologist.

**An intake assessment will be required for children not already attending Leaps and Bounds to ensure all of the children will receive maximum benefit from their group.

When: Thursdays-June 3, 2010 through July 28, 2010 (no groups on July 1, 2010)

Where: Leaps and Bounds

Each group is led by an Occupational therapist specializing in handwriting instruction.

ABC’s and 123’s (Thursdays 9-10 am)

This group is directed toward children who are learning how to form letters.
(Age/skill level is generally between 4-5 years)

Basic Print (10:30-11:30 am)

This group is for children who can form all of their letters. This group will focus on writing words, adhering to the line, spacing, and the size of letters.
(Age/skill level is generally between from 5-7 years)

Advanced Print (12-1pm)

This group is for children who can write sentences, but are working on improving their legibility.
(Age/skill level is generally between from 6-8 years)

Cursive Writing (1:30-2:30 pm)

This group is for children who have been introduced to cursive this past school year or are working on improving their cursive writing. Sessions will include instruction on each letter, as well as putting the writing together into words and sentences.

Sensory Processing: A Foundation for Skill Development

Sensory processing is a foundation for skill development. This seminar will emphasize the importance of efficient sensory processing for a child’s attention, learning, behavior, and general skill development, including language and articulation. A child learns best when his body is organized and ready to receive the information presented. Understanding the impact that improved sensory processing can have on a child’s ability to engage and learn can have a dramatic impact on the effectiveness of intervention. Participants will learn effective treatment strategies that can improve attention and learning and enhance language and articulation skills.

Learning Outcomes:
(1) Explain sensory processing and its impact on attention, learning, behavior, and skill development
(2) Recognize signs of sensory processing disorder impacting children on their caseload
(3) Identify effective treatment strategies to increase a child’s attention, learning, behavior, and skill development

This seminar will provide you with information about why and how to use music and rhythm to enhance your child’s attention and learning. Discussion will range from basic rhythmical strategies to therapeutic auditory programs.
