Is It Sensory? Unraveling the Mystery of Problem Behaviors

Posted By: Leaps & Bounds on Oct 3, 2013   Category: Archive

Sophie has meltdowns every time you enter a store. Jack refuses to engage in an activity and becomes aggressive. Olivia has a tantrum every night at dinner time. Why do kids act out? There are numerous factors that contribute to negative behaviors, including poor sensory processing, poor sleep patterns, and nutritional issues. It is critical to analyze a child’s problem behaviors to determine the root cause. By determining the underlying reason for negative behaviors, you will then be able to find the appropriate strategies to manage the behaviors, and to help your child be successful each day.

Please join us on Thursday, October 17th, 2013 at 7:30 for our FREE Parent Seminar, titled “Is It Sensory? Unraveling the Mystery of Problem Behaviors”. This seminar will discuss several of the potential factors that cause negative behaviors, how to determine the factors for your child, and strategies to manage undesirable behaviors

Please call our office at 636-928-5327 to reserve your seat for this seminar.

Transitions for Sensory Kids

Posted By: Rob Salyer on Aug 29, 2013   Category: Archive   Tags: , ,

With the start of the new school year, comes the challenge of change for sensory sensitive kids. Think about all the changes: New schedule, new teacher, new environment, possibly new peers. Each one of these areas of change will bring with it new sensory experiences. The novelty of each of these things can be unnerving, and all of the sensations involved can send our sensory kids into a tailspin: the sights, the sounds, the smells, the touch input….

THEN comes the change in temperature……and with that a whole new host of anxieties for our kids who do not like change! If you have a sensory sensitive kid, then you may be familiar with the meltdowns that come with the transition of wearing uniform shirts, long sleeves, collared shirts, jeans and pants. It is not only stressful for your child, but stressful for YOU, and often the whole family.

If you want more information about sensory processing, how it impacts your child’s daily life activities, and strategies to help your child, please join us for our FREE parent seminar

Play This, Not That!

Posted By: Leaps & Bounds on Apr 18, 2013   Category: Archive

Remember the days when all the neighborhood kids would get together to play a game of kickball or freeze tag outside? Remember when you would use recycled food boxes to set up your own grocery store? Remember when you built forts in your living room using blankets, furniture, pillows and whatever else you could find? Here at Leaps and Bounds we are on a mission to bring back old fashioned play.

Play is important for the language and social development of a child. Play encourages parent-child communication, interaction with peers, the use of his imagination, and the development of other skills vital to academic success.

Join us on Thursday, May 2nd, 2013 from 7:30-9:00 PM to find out how you can bring back old fashioned play with your kids!
